Layer Up x RSS Starry 2025
Back when I received the latest Starry fabrics for my Adrift quilt sample, Ruby Star Society also included enough for me to make a Layer Up sample! I’ve loved this collection from the jump so it’s easy to imagine how elated I was when this happy mail arrived on my doorstep.

Playing with color is one of my favorite parts of the quilting process but sometimes, I just want to get started on the project right away. Fabric bundles are great for this and Layer Up is a great pattern for showing them off! The no-muss, no-fuss minimalist design shares the center stage with the the colors and prints.
Here’s another shot of the stack because these prints deserve another look:
As with most XOXSEW patterns, Layer Up pieces up in a jiffy. I cut, sewed, and pieced this sample in one afternoon while watching The Buccaneers on Apple TV. Unlike the show, this pattern is straightforward and drama-free!
In fact, the only other time I remembered to take work-in-progress shots was when this guy helped me baste the quilt. (On a side note, he’s also straightforward and drama-free!). This is my husband’s first time basting and because I covered all the quilting steps in the Modern Landscape Quilts book, he read and followed the basting section to a T. 🥳
I originally planned to hand quilt this project but my thread stash didn’t match some of the colors. So, I changed course and machine quilted the project instead, keeping it simple by mimicking the angles for the quilting lines.
For those eager to plan ahead, here’s a screenshot of the fabric requirements:
Make sure to check back when the Layer Up quilt pattern releases on September 9! Thanks for stopping by xo
