Spooky Season Sampler 2025
Welcome to the Bob Blob block blog post! For starters, the block is part of the Spooky Season Sampler, a collaborative sew along featuring nine FREE quilt blocks from nine pattern designers. (Click HERE to sign up!)
Last year’s block was a choose-your-gravestone pattern. This year, I’m delighted to introduce another 2-in-1 pattern. Say hi to Bob Blob! With this easy, fast, and versatile pattern, you get to choose which handsome gooey glob to make: the bobbing version, where Bob is on the move, or the blobbed version, where Bob is splattered!
Since Bob’s all-consuming hobby is to creep others out, he was thoughtfully designed so that you can rotate his eyes to your liking. Feel free to have his eyes go in different directions — or better yet, have him side-eyeing an adjacent block!
Not only is Bob suitable for all skill levels, but he also pieces up fast. I tested both versions in one afternoon and I think the part that took the longest was figuring out how I wanted to quilt them. In the end, I hand quilted one and machine quilted the other.
The other part that took the longest was testing out my kid’s slime for a quick photoshoot! I envisioned a lot of spilled slime to represent unformed blobs, but I just couldn’t risk ruining my blanket. That’s why you might notice one teeny tiny container of slime instead.😅
Once again, Riley Blake generously provided a selection of their Confetti Cotton solids for the spooky fun. Shown above are: crocus, tangerine, autumn, charcoal, mediterranean, and white.
I ended up using a couple of scraps leftover from last year’s sew along for Bob’s black border piece. I believe the fabric is called phantom from RBD’s Shades collection.

Behind The Scenes
Bob is a nod to our family’s annual tradition of decorating our front door as a silly monster face (because we love simple homemade decorations that are easy on the wallet). For the original “Bob” door shown above, we used a blue poster board for the hair, a pair of giant googly eyes taped to a paper plate, and good ol’ painter’s tape for the mouth, teeth, and eyebrows.
The name Bob Blob was inspired by a character from the Arrested Development show, a lawyer named Bob Loblaw. 🤪
If you enjoyed Bob Blob, he’s not ready to go! Stay tuned for the full quilt pattern!
